Breakdown to Breakthrough

One truth that many people do not like to hear or accept is that life, as we know it, breaks down. When life is in the midst of falling apart, we often feel helpless and bereft of any one person or thing that can help. This is a time when the idea of being alone seems tempting and even right; believing that it is better to suffer alone rather than invite others into the deep, black hole of our dismay and disappointment. Isolation multiplies our desperation to find some form of relief. No matter how rational the thought of suffering alone may be, it alienates us from those who care and want to support us without doing our work.

Find a Reprieve

On the other hand, it is impossible to find anyone or anything that can protect us from having to experience these undesired and agonizing moments in life. It is when we feel the most broken in pieces that we release the courage, tenacity, resilience, grit, and self-compassion we have stored within. At such times, we can find a quiet corner in our home; an inviting and soft place to rest that provides a reprieve from the myriad disturbances that keep us wrapped in distress. It is in such deliberately sought out environments that we can see how mentally distracted and emotionally disconnected from ourselves we’ve become.

Trigger to Healing

We have to remind ourselves often that a breakdown is a break through. In such sacred moments we recognize that the dreaded breakdown is in reality the trigger that will set us on a path of healing and transformational enlightenment.

Life breaks down for good reason. Find the goodness. The reason will then become crystal clear.
